As we all sit and wait for Cyberpunk 2077 to release any information or updates for 2022, fans have once again taken up the task of producing new content, but this time, not with in-game mods.
I saw a few different CDPR employees tweeting about this project, a new fanmade game called Cyberbang 2069. It’s a visual novel set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe that has both SFW and NSFW explicit versions as you try to romance various male members of the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. This first version is concentrated on trying to win the affection of Sandayu Oda, the Arasaka ninja, though there are further plans to include Goro Takemura, Johnny Silverhand, and Victor Vektor, and demos for that content which will be added later.
The description of the game reads “A FREE, UNOFFICIAL fan project made with express permission from, and not endorsed by, CD Projekt Red.” So, they sought out permission to make it so CDPR wouldn’t end up shutting them down. And again, CDPR developers really seem to really like this:
Yes, this is a “sexy” production, but players are impressed with the artwork, writing and care that went into making the game. A sample of some of the reviews:
“As a fan of CP2077, really love what you have done. Love how you pay homage to the game, but still able to bring fan fiction to life. Well done, great artwork, and solid storytelling, felt right at home with the characters, instantly recognized every location. well done.”
“This is so damn good. The quality of the VN is over the hills. For now there’s only one full route available (Oda’s), but gosh… it’s absolutely stunning. Haven’t tried something that gorgeous for ages. Thank you for creating this masterpiece. Chef’s kiss.”
“Just played Vik route and my heart has melted and exploded at the same time. The feels were on a level 10. Great job wit the game. I really appreciate you guys making this. The official Cyberpunk 2077 game was horrible with the romances they offered and this game is just needed.”
Cyberpunk 2077 of course had its own series of explicit romances in the game itself, but they were pretty limited, and included none of the characters featured here, which was perhaps what inspired this game in the first place. In Cyberpunk, you are effectively limited to one real romance option per gender and sexual preference. Female V can only romance River or Judy. Male V can only romance Kerry or Panam. Cyberbang 2069 allows Male or female V to have a lot more male romance options, and fleshes out these characters and the potential relationships more.
Anyway, I do appreciate how dedicated the Cyberpunk 2077 fandom is, despite all the issues with the game over the past year. I do think CDPR has created some great characters here, and it’s cool to see them being embraced by fans, and then in turn, CDPR shouting out these fan projects themselves. Give the game a try if you want here.
