South Delhi civic body carries out anti-encroachment drive; CM Kejriwal calls for meeting

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) carried out an anti-encroachment drive in two zones today, including the west zone and Najafgarh zone.

While the west zone covers Khayala Road, Shyam Nagar, Vishnu Garden (Ward No. 7S), Subhash Nagar and surrounding areas (Ward No. 9S), the Najafgarh zone includes Goyala Dairy and its surrounding areas (Ward No. 395).

On May 11, civic authorities carried out a round of planned anti-encroachment drives in Najafgarh and West Zones of the SDMC, removing temporary structures put up illegally, a senior official said.

On the other hand, a three-storey house in Kanchan Kunj of Madanpur Khadar has been completely razed down by SDMC officials.

On the other hand, North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) recently removed temporary encroachments from Rohini, Karol Bagh and Turkman Gate with the help of local police.


Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has called a meeting at CM House on May 14 over the ‘bulldozer action’ in different areas of the national capital. All MLAs of the party will be present at the meeting, news agency ANI reported.


AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan was arrested by the Delhi Police on Thursday night after he participated in a protest against the demolition drive in Delhi’s Madanpur Khadar. A clash broke out between protesters and the police during the demolition drive.

Present at the site of the clash, Amanatullah Khan had said, “I am ready to go to jail if it saves the houses of poor people. There is no encroachment here. I will support them [civic body] in demolition if there is any encroachment.”

Five others were also arrested.
