Officers and ambulance crews – along with a helicopter – were scrambled to Jeffcock Road, in Penn, at around 8.40pm on Wednesday.

But upon arrival West Midlands Police found “no evidence of a shooting or that anyone had been injured”, a spokesman for the force said.

People on social media said the nearby McDonald’s car park was “full of police and emergency vehicles” amid other reports of a shooting.

Police said enquiries were continuing on Thursday with CCTV being recovered whilst police patrols were being stepped up after the disorder.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called by the police to Jeffcock Road, Wolverhampton at 8.49pm. A number of ambulance resources attended the scene but were later stood down as no patient was found on scene.”

Anyone with information, CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage has been asked to contact the force via live chat at west-midlands.police.uk, log 3882 of June 8.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
