Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blur movie review

If you’re a fan of Billie Eilish, I can’t see you being disappointed with the recent documentary the world is a bit hazy. Far from being hazy, the film takes a very deep and personal look at Billy’s life in the early years of the young star’s life.

The camera takes us behind the scenes into his brother’s bedroom and gives us an intimate look into the recording process of the songs and the act of composing them and their inspiration. We see Billy and Phineas running through the lines and rehearsing the lyrics and building up the words to be a finished song. This look at artistic effort is invaluable and allows us as audiences to have a very personal look at the creative process of songwriters that we would not otherwise get. I found it personally self-rewarding as a creative person to see how easily and with practice, the lines that became famous in songs were first born and created. I have to say that watching the creative process behind the scenes was one of the best parts of the documentary for me.

We see Billy’s family up close and personal, and we encounter a mother who hovers over and is an intimate part of everything that Billy rises up to and is a part of. As she composes songs, she eats, travels around the world and has her mother around before and after her appearance on stage. We see very clearly in this film that Billy will not be given the “luxury” of drug or alcohol abuse because the closeness of his mother and father in everything he does will not allow this to happen.

For his fans who have a keen understanding of his music and greatly appreciate his songs, you will be impressed by how many songs are featured in this film and his live appearances at concerts. What bothered me was Billy’s injuries and the effect of dancing on stage on his very delicate body. I had my heart in my throat when the film caught Billy sustaining a broken ankle in one of his performances and then returning to sing on stage. What really impressed me was the energy that Billy put into his performance and his desire to do a great show for his fans every time.

When we see and listen to Billy, we understand that Billy really loves his fans and only wants the best for them, whether it’s the best show or meeting them face-to-face and letting them know. Touching, and hugging the lucky few. Billy doesn’t want to be a distant star who can’t get up close and personal to his fans and we appreciate that in this touching look at the star and her makeup.
