The France war Memorial:

The France War Memorial in Pondicherry was built in memory of the war heroes who died in the First World War. This monument was built in 1971 and every year on July 14, Bastille Day, this monument is decorated with beautiful lights. On this day, tribute is paid to French martyrs. This tradition to date is a classic example of how it is associated with its French roots.

The memorial is located at the Goubert Avenue in it and is open for travelers throughout the day. Once upon arrival in Pondicherry, one must pay tribute to the martyrs by visiting the memorial.

Pondicherry Museum:

Pondicherry Museum is another milestone that should not be missed while visiting Pondicherry. The museum has a gallery which has many sculptures and many important archaeological items dating back to the Arikamedu Roman system. This museum is a storehouse of rare artifacts of ancient times. The collection exhibited here includes many rare brass statues and stones of the Chola and Pallava dynasties. On coming to Pondicherry it is very easy to come to Pondicherry Museum. Raj Niwas:

The Raj Niwas in Pondicherry is currently the official residence of the Lieutenant Government of Pondicherry. Long ago the Raj Niwas was the official residence of Yusuf Francois Dupleix, the French Governor of Pondicherry. Historically, Pondicherry is a very important place and Pondicherry has been a witness to the social, political and cultural changes that have taken place over the centuries. The current resident of Raj Niwas is the current Governor of Pondicherry, Kiran Bedi


Auroville (also called the early morning city) is a city where different nationalities and cultures meet. It is a city that is home to people from about 50 different countries and is widely considered to be a global city. Easily accessible by road, the city of Auroville is a beacon of cultural harmony and community life.

The city of Auroville, founded by Mirra Alfassa, more famously called ‘Maa‘, was started in 1968 as a project of the Sri Aurobindo Society. The city of Auroville consists of various areas such as peace zones, industrial zones, residential zones, international zones, cultural zones, and green belts. Auro Beach is also located near the city which is the most attractive place for tourists due to its beauty.

Botanical Garden:

Botanical Gardens and Aquariums in Pondicherry were founded in 1826 by C.S. Perrotet. The Botanical Garden is a collection of exotic plants that are of interest to biology students and researchers. This garden and aquarium is located near the south gate of the major bus stand and is spread over 22 acres of land.

The aquarium has a wide variety of marine life, making it a popular tourist destination. It gives visitors a unique glimpse of aquatic life. This garden has a children’s train, a dancing fountain, some rare varieties of beautiful fish, and six fountains.


Arikamedu is one of the most expensive archaeological excavations done by Mortimer Wheeler in 1940. This excavation revealed that Arikamedu was the ancient port of the Chola dynasty where trade between the Chola and the Romans took place. Evidence of Roman civilization can be seen in the form of pottery found in excavations at this place.

Pottery marks of the great schools of pottery of the Roman Empire were found in Arikamedu. Arikamedu was an important center for making pearls. It is believed that the people in Arikamedu were inhabited before the first century. Arikamedu is a place that one must visit when visiting Pondicherry.

Sacred Heart Church:

Sacred Heart Church of Jesus is one of the most famous and important churches in Pondicherry. The church is a unique design in the Gothic style of architecture and attracts many visitors throughout the year. The most attractive place and easily amazing feature of this church are its stained glass windows that show the reflection of the time of Jesus’ life. On December 17, 1907, for the first time, a huge number of people were gathered in this church. The church was built in the year 1908. This church had an exciting celebration of the centenary in the year 2008.

Promenade Beach:

Popularly known as Rock Beach, Pondicherry Beach was once a major attraction of Pondicherry. The sea erosion caused by the construction of a new port in the Ariyankuppam sealed to the destruction of this beautiful beach. As a remnant of this beautiful promenade beach, the sea wall of the riprap rocket is left, making it unsuitable for walking or swimming. Traffic movement on the coast is stopped in the evening, making it an ideal place for a walk on the beach. Promenade Beach is approx. 1.5 km and all the major attractions of the city are parallel to it. Once you come to Pondicherry, you should definitely visit this place.
